Week of June 25-29, 2018

Our last week of school.  Isn't it funny how in some ways it feels like the year absolutely flew by and yet in others it feels like September was so long ago?  That must mean we've packed a lot into our Grade 4 year but had fun doing it!  Thank you for sharing your children with us all year.

Notes:
  • Despite how long the days are, it's important your child comes to school well rested and ready to learn.  Students who are tired don't think well and argue with each other.  Let's have a wonderful last week!
  • There are just a couple of outstanding library books left.  Please get these in or paid for ASAP.  Thanks to everyone who brought their books back!

This Week's Schedule:
Monday:
  • Walking to Wilson for long jump 9:00 a.m.
  • Energy Day Assembly 12:30 p.m.

Wednesday:
  • Swimming at Westminster pool all afternoon

Thursday:
  • Grade 5 Farewell Assembly 8:45 a.m.
  • Students dismissed at 11:45 a.m.
  • Report cards sent home

  • Last day for staff

HAPPY SUMMER!! See you in the fall!!

Applesauce

Thanks to the students who brought an apple for the teacher on our Early School Days/1800's day!  We turned the gift from them into a gift for them, and made them into applesauce.  Many students really enjoyed their little taste, so here is the recipe:

Friday 1 June 2018

Week of June 4-8, 2018

Wow!  We're in the final month!  We have a lot left to learn and do, so please make sure students are coming to school well rested, well fed and ready to learn!

Notes:
  • For Tunes in June at Winston Churchill High School, bring a lunch to eat on the grass.
  • Sports Day is on Friday.  The school is still looking for volunteers.  Please make sure your child comes to school ready to be active outside all morning.  Everyone should have a water bottle and come wearing sunscreen.  Bug spray may be a desirable option as well.

Curriculum:
  • Math: We are going to continue working on multiplying, this week adding 3-digit numbers into the mix.  You can help at home by having your child practice their basic multiplication facts (they should know these by now!), and have them show you the strategy that they like best for solving 2-digit multiplication problems.
  • L.A.
    • Spelling: The next lesson is coming home.  It may be Lesson 15 or 16 depending on what they got last time.
    • Writing: We are going to have some fun with writing for the next little bit.  We're going to write silly stories and use Lego to help us write creatively, focussing on having a strong beginning, middle and end.
  • Science: This week we are going to learn about how plants begin and how seeds spread (or disperse).  We will also start reviewing for the end of the unit.
  • Social: This week we are going to learn more about Alberta as a young province.  We are also having an old fashioned school day on Wednesday (see the note that came home).
